The Macedonian Parliament adopted the Doha amendment of the Kyoto Protocol

Global #ClimateAction

The United Nations is encouraging governments to ratify as soon as they can the amendments relating to the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, the international emissions reduction treaty. Ratification of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol is a valuable part of the momentum for global climate action for the years leading up to 2020.

With a view to the upcoming Climate Action Summit hosted by the UN Secretary General in September 2019 as well as COP 25 in December 2019, the Macedonian Parliament adopted the "Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol".

 The Amendment includes:

·         New commitments for Annex I Parties to the Kyoto Protocol who agreed to take on commitments in a second commitment period from 1 January 2013

           to  31 December 2020;

·         A revised list of greenhouse gases (GHG) to be reported on by Parties in the second commitment period; and

·         Amendments to several articles of the Kyoto Protocol which specifically referenced issues pertaining to the first commitment period and which needed to be updated for the second commitment period.

Entry into legal force of the Doha Amendment is a valuable part of global #ClimateAction for the post 2020 period and critical for the rigorous and successful implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.
