During my entire life, I have always thought about how my habits and behavior impact the environment. Wanting to develop healthy life habits within my family, and especially because for many years I have been working devotedly as a professional in the field of climate change, I couldn’t come to terms with the fact that our family vehicle is powered by diesel. Four years ago my dream finally came true. We saved money and replaced the old diesel car with Тоyota Auris hybrid – a hybrid vehicle with low CO2 emissions.
We read a lot and learned a lot and in the end, I think that we made the right choice.
This hybrid vehicle is not charged with a cable; instead, part of the fuel used is produced by the vehicle itself (mechanical energy produced through tire spinning and using the brakes). In other words, our record for driving around Skopje is 2.1 liters. We can’t remember the last time we filled the tank with petrol. And what is most important, when the vehicle starts or during the stop-start traffic jam in Skopje, we do not pollute at all. In such situations, the hybrid is powered by electricity produced by the vehicle itself.
Hybrid vehicles are transitional steps towards electric vehicles, which require certain infrastructural preconditions, and in the meantime, while the adjustment takes place, they allow us to have more electricity from renewable sources. And what is also very important is that they are becoming increasingly affordable. Good hybrid vehicles are already available at prices of EUR 15,000, whereas Chinese small city cars are sold even at prices below EUR 10,000.
